WeWriWa - 5/17/15 - A Heart on Hold (An Everlasting Heart#1)

Welcome back! Here we go . . . back to the bank of a nameless river along the base of the Ouachita Mountains along about sundown just before the outbreak of the war between the states.

Her insides turned to mush and she felt as though she could live the rest of her life in this moment right here. A light bug buzzed her before landing on the picnic blanket. Charlotte gently shooed it off before trusting her voice. “Five years sure crept by,” she told the blanket. “I’m glad you’re back.” I was so worried that you would meet someone else. Someone prettier, someone good enough for you. Sanderson no longer appeared to be engaged in the conversation. “The shopkeeper managed to match the green in your eyes to the shade of green in this blanket perfectly,” he murmured, removing a lock of her almond colored hair from her eyelashes and tucking it behind her ear.

  1. It had to be both harder (and sometimes easier) to wait for someone you loved in the past as opposed to now. Today, we can get news from someone within a day or two, oftentimes even less, but back before so many of our electronic gadgets, months and years could pass without a letter... and no one expected news any faster than that. Yes, they thought and dreamed and worried, but they also could put off these some because they expected things to take time.

So it's nice to see these two enjoying a moment... even if Sanderson -does- seem a bit distracted.

    1. Thank you Eden!! :-D Exactly what I was trying to convey in this scene . . . my own husband was in Afghanistan as I wrote these lines and I waited for word from him. Luckily, he is home safe with me now. <3

  2. (I think the quotation marks in the snippet drifted out of place? Needs one after "enough for you"?) Enjoyed the excerpt, thought her emotion seemed very realistic and I like that he's distracted by her eyes and hair. Excellent!

    1. Thanks Veronica! Actually, my italics didn't come through from the Kindle version of A Heart on Hold. Those are supposed to be her inner thoughts as she shares the blanket with him :-) Thank you for stopping by, my friend!
